HS-2R1Y-REV1.1 Instant Electric Water Heater PCBA with Flow-Based Temperature Control

The HS-2R1Y-REV1.1 is a control PCBA for instant electric water heaters that require touch operation, temperature adjustment and coordinated water-flow control. Paired with the HS-HX-HW8848XK-C2.3 display board, it provides a user interface for setting and monitoring hot-water operation.

The sample uses an APT-based control design and an 85–280 VAC switch-mode power supply. A separate transformer-based configuration supports 180–265 VAC. SunSam can evaluate the suitable configuration against the customer’s appliance design and target-market requirements.

Four-Key Touch Control and Clear Display

The four-key interface lets users switch the appliance on or off, adjust the target temperature and access mode settings. Pressing and holding a temperature key enables continuous adjustment, while each valid key press produces an audible beep.

At power-on, all display segments illuminate for approximately one second. During operation, the screen can show the set temperature, outlet water temperature, water-flow status, heating status and energy-consumption information.

The touch keys are designed for use behind a 4 mm glass panel or a 2 mm plastic panel. The display layout and control behavior can be adapted to the customer’s enclosure and interface requirements.

Heating Linked to Water Flow

The controller starts heating when water flow reaches approximately 1.5 L/min and stops heating when flow falls to approximately 1.3 L/min. This allows the heating operation to follow the appliance’s water-flow condition.

Inlet and outlet temperature monitoring is supported through 50K NTC sensors. The firmware also supports automatic calibration and memory of temperature-control parameters.

The sample report lists three power-setting codes: 60, 70 and 80. Their corresponding wattage values require confirmation for the final appliance configuration. Actual heater power depends on the heating element and the complete electrical design.

Fault Diagnostics and Protection

The controller provides diagnostic indications for over-temperature, leakage-current and temperature-sensor faults.

For the tested program, an E4 over-temperature condition stops heating at 63°C or above. Heating can resume after the temperature falls to 50°C. A leakage-current fault or an outlet temperature-sensor fault also stops heating and displays the relevant diagnostic code.

Fault responses can be reviewed during firmware customization to match the customer’s sensor arrangement and complete-appliance safety requirements.

Sample Temperature-Control Results

In internal sample testing, the inlet water temperature was 26°C and the tested flow rates were 1.5 L/min and 3.0 L/min. After the initial temperature-learning calibration, all recorded settings from 30°C to 48°C reached a stable temperature within 20 seconds.

Temperature accuracy and response time in a finished water heater depend on the heating element, inlet temperature, flow rate, sensor placement and water-path design. Final performance should be checked using the complete appliance.

Internal Validation

The switch-mode configuration operated continuously at 280 VAC for eight hours without abnormality. The sample also operated for eight hours at 65°C and 90% relative humidity without abnormality.

These are internal sample test results. Electrical safety and certification requirements should be evaluated for the final appliance and its destination market.
